The present working paper summarizes selected findings of the macro-economic simulations conducted as part of the study "Shaping the digital transformation in Europe", which assess the potential impact of disruptive digital technologies on the economy and society in the EU and its member states. The study is carried out by McKinsey & Company on behalf of the Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect).

It encompasses, inter alia,

  • a comprehensive analysis of high impact, disruptive digital technologies;
  • a survey of European business executives on digital and technology strategies;
  • a simulation of the macro-economic impact of these technologies; and
  • identification and analysis of high impact areas, strategies and actions for Europe.

This paper is not a full report of the work conducted, but an extraction focusing on selected elements of the macro-economic analyses.
