EU Code Week is a volunteer movement that encourages people to discover coding. Code Week Ambassadors coordinate the initiative in their countries. But everyone can hold events to show motivated people how to create their own app, program a robot, or make anything they dream of.
As part of the Digital Single Market, the European Commission promotes various initiatives aimed at increasing digital skills for the workforce and for citizens e.g. the Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition and EU Code Week. On 7 December Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, encouraged the participation of more schools in Code Week and asked to to bring Code Week to 50% of all schools by 2020.
