This communication launches the debate on the future European Information Society strategy beyond 2005. It is a major component of the reflection process that will lead to the adoption of a new strategy during 2005. Based on this communication, this online consultation is the first step in a broad debate with policy makers, stakeholders, the private sector and civil society that will lead to the endorsement of a new strategy by the European institutions at the end of 2005.
In its communication, the Commission identifies a number of issues that will require the attention of policy makers during the coming years, such as electronic inclusion and citizenship, content and services, public services, skills and work, ICT as a key industry sector, interoperability, trust and dependability and ICT for business processes. With the online consultation, these issues are now put to the test; the Commission asks policy makers, stakeholders, the private sector and civil society to respond to these by 16 January 2005.
