The EOSC, an intiative launched by the European Commission in May 2015, aims at providing the scientific community with cloud infrastructure for data storage, scientific results share and re-use, and data services.

The Governance Board outlined four main streams including the EOSC correlation with national initiatives, its capacity to adapt to international requests, the regulatory framework for emerging ecosystems and synchronisation with other European Commission initiatives such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Public Sector Information (PSI), High-Performance Computing (EuroHPC) and the European Strategy Forum for Research and Infrastructures (ESFRI).
