This online workshop for municipalities, organised by the European Commission, will focus on possible “smart city applications” for which communities might need innovative connectivity solutions, such as 5G.

CEF Digital

The European Parliament and the Council have recently reached a political agreement on the new Connecting Europe Facility  (CEF2 Digital), which will be one of the most important EU Broadband funding instrument for the next Multiannual Financial  Framework (2021-2027).

With a foreseen budget of €3 billion, the new CEF Digital will target strategic infrastructure investments, including 5G corridors  along major transport paths, linking users across Europe to high performance computing centres, and – in particular - Gigabit  connectivity for 5G-ready communities in Europe.

The Commission has started a dialogue with stakeholders to ensure that CEF Digital will support Member States' efforts in reaching the EU's 2025 Gigabit objectives. In this context, municipalities will play a key role in many concrete projects, since the Commission aims at localising the digital revolution and supporting smart communities.

To learn from such experiences with digitalisation, the European Commission is organising an online workshop on Friday 24 May from 15:00 to 17:00.  If you participate, you will have the chance to discuss your projects and idesa with people from cities and municipalities around Europe, as well as with our team directly. The event will focus in particular on possible “smart city applications” for which communities might need innovative connectivity solutions, such as 5G.

If you are interested in taking part in this exchange of views and ideas (in English only) please register by Friday May, 24  12:00 at the latest. Once you are registered, you will receive the log-in information for the conference website.
