The Call for "Research and Innovation Actions" to support creative processes in the creative industries has resulted in the selection of six projects, starting December 2015-February 2016, with an EU funding of € 20 million.

The ABC DJ project seeks to provide European creative agencies in the field of audio branding with sophisticated ICT supporting tools. As a result they will be able to offer branding services and products of such high quality that they can successfully compete with the current big players. Secondly, European creators of music, (independent) labels as well as
respective multipliers will be actively included in the audio branding value chains and enjoy support and novel schemes from the monetisation of their works as in-store music. The pool of music effectively exploitable for branding agencies and brand clients could thus grow significantly. Website

A huge amount of audio material like sound samples, soundscapes and music pieces, is available and released under Creative Commons licenses, both coming from amateur and professional content creators. The aim of this project is to create an ecosystem of content, technologies and tools to bring those "Audio Commons" to the Creative Industries, enabling creation, access, retrieval and reuse of Creative Commons audio content in innovative ways that fit the requirements of audio-visual, music and video games production. The project also tackles rights management challenges derived from
the content reuse enabled by the created ecosystem and research about business models that can arise from it.

Early visualisation, reducing the cost of changes at later stages, is an essential phase in the design process of narrative art forms and media such as film, animated series, and stage plays. The project will build a toolset that brings the power of digital previsualisation to productions in key application areas and makes previs easier and faster, with significant benefits for production quality. The first.stage toolset will not be limited to specially trained staff, but employ natural user interfaces that utilise innate abilities and existing skills of artists. Website

The goal is to develop, implement and validate an end-to-end object based media chain for audio content, facilitating infinite combinations of audio objects in ways that are flexible and responsive to user, environmental and platform-specific factors. This includes innovative tools for capturing, mixing, monitoring, storing, archiving, playing out, distributing and rendering object-based audio. ORPHEUS will deliver a sustainable solution, ensuring that workflows and components for object-based audio scale up to enable costeffective commercial production and distribution. Website

REPLICATE will develop a user-centric, mobile-based, 3D-acquisition tool to transform the real-world into new forms of creative assets. It will establish rich and flexible forms of reusable content through the use of semantic decomposition tools that enable users to unlock subelements of objects and easily add lifelike properties to complex objects.
It will enhance creative processes through integrating novel Mixed-Reality user experiences, experimental solutions like 3D/4D storyboarding in unconstrained environments and the ad hoc expression of ideas by disassembling and reassembling objects in a co-creative workspace. Website

The project will create a responsive and intuitive ICT platform exploiting the potential of Spatial Augmented Reality. It will enable real-like interaction with mixed prototypes (partially virtual and partially physical), and enhance the innovation capabilities of Creative Industries through the facilitation of brainstorming and the early assessment of solutions in a co-design environment. Work will aim at (1) reducing the time needed for generating ideas, (2) reducing the amount of creative SME’s human resources on a single project, (3) reducing the workload of the people involved in the brainstorming sessions and (4) increasing the efficiency of the whole design process, by enhancing direct feedback from the customers. The co-design environment U_CODE will enable communication and collaboration between large numbers of citizen and professional experts in urban design. Key novelties are a highly accessible public interface featuring experiential design tools for engaged citizens, and an exchange hub between public users and professionals supporting the collection of project relevant information, the generation of initial impulses, and the discussion of propositions in the early phase of the
design. U_CODE will enable professional creatives to utilise the public´s creativity, to analyse and follow public opinions and sentiments, and to derive design intelligence from them. Website
