The Directive on eSignature establishes the legal framework at European level for electronic signatures and certification services. The aim is to make electronic signatures easier to use and help them become legally recognised within the Member States.

Article 11 of the Directive requests Member States to notify the Commission and other Member States of the following:

  1. information on national voluntary accreditation schemes, including any additional requirements pursuant to Article 3(7)
  2. the details of the national bodies responsible for accreditation and supervision as well as of the bodies referred to in Article 3(4)
  3. the details of all accredited national certification service providers
