After 2 and a half days of digital inspiration, creativity and connecting, ICT 2013 – Europe's biggest digital technology event has now finished. Almost 5000 people attended the event in Vilnius and voted for their favourite exhibition stand and ICT-inspired art performance or events.

Overall winner best stand: MD-Paedigree: Big Data Cloud and Smart Analytics Decision Support tool for mining Europe’s first social medical network on Paediatrics


MD-Paedigree, which stands for Model-Driven European Paediatric Digital Repository, is a clinically-led ICT project to develop a model-driven data and workflow-based digital repository, leveraging an information processing and knowledge discovery evolutionary framework, for personalised and predictive treatment in paediatrics.

MD-Paedigree makes it possible to apply big data analytics to routine clinical data that involve children, bringing together all information and knowledge in a Big Data (private) Cloud which forms the basis of a Smart Analytics service meant to provide three fundamental functionalities:

1) Similarity search, enabling clinicians to access “patient like mine” and patients to find “patients exactly like me”;

2) Model-based patient-specific simulation and prediction;

3) Patient-specific clinical workflow. At ICT’13, MD-P’s decision support capacities are going to be shown by allowing visitors to use the system themselves.

Winner: Build, connect grow Large Scale Pilots. Cross border digital public services for a Connected Continent


As EU citizens are increasingly working, playing, studying and doing business across borders, online cross-order public services are essential for a future digital economy and digital single market. The stand's hugely popular ice cream stall where you could construct your own ice-cream from a range of delicious building blocks, echoed the building blocks for cross-border eGovernment services being developed by this project.

Since 2008, large-scale pilots (LSPs) have been developing and testing seamless cross-border digital services in: Securely linking electronic identities - STORK 2.0 helping create a single European electronic identification and authentication area; Making justice faster –e-CODEX improve cross-border access of citizens and businesses to legal services in Europe; Making healthcare better - epSOS for cross-border interoperability between electronic health record systems; Making procurement better –PEPPOL helps European businesses to deal easily and electronically with European public authorities in their procurement processes; Making business easier – SPOCS provides seamless cross-border electronic alternatives to help businesses establish themselves abroad.

The next stage in this journey is e-SENS, over 100 partners from 20 countries from Portugal to Turkey are developing and implementing building blocks based on open standards and specifications in interoperable eIDs, eSignature, eDelivery and eDocuments .Innovators from the public and private sector can use these to create new digital public services, helping to "build, connect, and grow" Europe.

Winner: SUPERHUB SUstainable and PERsuasive Human Users moBility in future cities

SUPERHUB aims make travelling in cities easier and greener. SUPERHUB has designed and implemented a web and mobile app which give users real-time information about the transport options available for a journey (including using our own vehicle, public transportation, car- and bike-sharing services, car-pooling offers) and prompts them to take the one with the lowest environmental impact. By 2014, after 3 years of R&D and large-scale trials in Barcelona, Helsinki and Milan, SUPERHUB will unveil an Open Platform for multimodal mobility services and mobile applications enhanced by an intelligent data aggregation platform and multimodal journey planner.

Cluster 3 –industry and business for tomorrow; - Putting the competitiveness of European industry in the centre.

Winner: ARUM Intelligent Agents Ensure Manufacturing Never Dies @arumProjectEu

ARUMs multi agent approach to dynamic (re)scheduling will ensure European manufacturing for tomorrow. Just as Tomorrow never Dies, Manufacturing Never Dies as Manufacturing 4.0. ARUM's partners include Europe’s manufacturing powerhouses Airbus / EADS, whose primary focus is Adaptive Production Management to efficientize so-called “ramp-up” production. ARUM is working on the new generation of factories that can handle such highly customized products (such as the new Airbus 350), which is exceptionally challenging for planning and control, especially in small lot sizes and frequent changes to requirements.

Suavely-dressed ARUM members helped users to experiment and give answers to their technical questions regarding Mission Risk, Intelligence Services, Q-branch developments and International cooperation.

Cluster 4 –intelligent connecting intelligence - Putting the competitiveness of European industry in the centre

Winner: CREW -  @FP7ictCREW

The CREW project is to establish an open federated test platform, which facilitates experimentally-driven research on advanced spectrum sensing, cognitive radio and cognitive networking strategies in view of horizontal and vertical spectrum sharing in licensed and unlicensed bands.

The booth will showcase several cognitive radio (networking) experiments and explains how experimenters can benefit from open access to various advanced wireless test facilities and cognitive components.

We show 5 different demonstrations (1 experiment by the core consortium and 4 by the experimenters of our second Open Call):

- ProtoStack modular stack composition for cognitive networking;

- Experiment-based validation of control channels for cognitive radio systems;

- Dynamic TV White Spaces geo-location database;

- Online energy consumption evaluation of spectrum sensing in the imec sensing engine; and

- Cognitive MAC schemes for multi-hop wireless networks.

Cluster 5 –culture, science and creativity

Winner' ICT & Art Connect

ICT & Art Connect is devoted to connecting the European ICT and Art communities to foster productive dialogues, engagement and collaborative work between them. The core objectives of the initiative are to identify new research avenues, associated challenges, and the impacts of ICT and Art collaboration on technology, art, science, education and society in general.

At ICT 2013, ICT & Art Connect showcased stunning examples of what can be achieved through such collaborative practice, both in terms of ICT co-creation with Artists, and in widening public engagement in ICT.

Delegates to participate in a selection of event activities and delegates from Art or ICT backgrounds met and developed project ideas and proposals together. Hopfullym partnerships wil be formed and will submit a collaborative project idea. Selected projects will be invited to work together in a residency at one of the partner locations, over a period of up to 3 months.

Best art exhibit: Music Innovation Studies Centre (MiSC)

The Music Innovation Studies Centre (MiSC) of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre is focusing its activities on synergy of art, research and technologies. In ICT 2013 MiSC presented a range of activities and projects sonically distributed in a spatial sound sphere and a spatial audiovisual installation in a stand. The capabilities of the sphere, as well as activities of the centre were demonstrated by presenting electroacoustic works and various artistic and educational projects of MiSC and partners – the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) in Graz, Austria, the Centre for Art and Media (ZKM) in Karlsruhe, Germany, and The Royal Danish Academy of Music, Copenhagen, Denmark.
