The European Commission is a strong supporter of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), and will be organising several initiatives during the event:
- An interactive Open Forum on the ‘Future Internet Governance Strategy for the European Union’ on Wednesday 27 November
- A booth with information on the Next-Generation Internet.
The IGF brings together all the global actors of the internet governance debate: from civil society to governments, to industry representatives and the technical community. This year, the debate will be crafted around the topic "One Word. One Net. One Vision", which highlights the future of the internet in its global, indivisible, human-centred and interoperable nature. In particular, the IGF will focus on three main strands:
- Data governance
- Safety, security, stability and resilience
- Digital inclusion
The event will be opened by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and United Nations Secretary General António Guterres.
