The conference aims to explore how co-productions can help in the promotion of a European cultural identity across borders, taking into account current technological challenges and their complementarity with the existing financial programmes.

Between 18-19 of March 2019, film professionals and audiovisual experts, national and European public institutions’ representatives will meet in Bucharest in the framework of the conference Fostering European cooperation through co-production to discuss the re-evaluation of cinematographic co-production models and present the financial instruments specific for the world film market.

The conference will address aspects of the established cinematographic co-production model in intersection with the new technological challenges and the complementarity with the existing financial programmes in order to highlight the impact on the promotion of European cultural identity within the Union and in external actions.

The event is organised by the Ministry of Culture and National Identity, through the Project Management Unit, with the support of the European Commission in the context of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU and has as target audience film professionals, audiovisual stakeholders, and policy makers.

The conference aims at providing an overview of many relevant issues concerning the co-production of European audiovisual works, including market figures, international and national regulations, funds supporting co-production, the use of digital technology in simplifying paperwork and increasing transparency, the intricacies of drafting contracts for this type of joint adventure.

Therefore, we will look back at the core values that lead to such a complex framework supporting the creation of European audiovisual works while highlighting the present co-production landscape and looking for solutions to boost cooperation between players and to enhance the quality of European audiovisual works.
