The Commission has published the results of the Flash Eurobarometer 477 study on Intra-EU communications. The study analysed the prevalence of using various communication channels to contact people within the EU.

The study found that 26% of the respondents have used traditional means (landline, mobile phone or SMS) to reach someone in another EU Member State. From the total of respondents that have contacted individuals in another EU Member State, almost a third say that they will make more calls or send more SMS once the caps enter into force on 15th May 2019.

The findings of the study show the importance of the traditional means, especially for those persons between 25-39 years old and the ones over 55 years old. Therefore, the price-caps on Intra-EU communications will provide an overall benefit to consumers.
