The FET Innovation Launchpad scheme aims at turning results from FET-funded projects into genuine societal or economic innovations, by taking further steps for those results like for instance the definition of a commercialisation process, market and competitiveness analysis, technology assessment, verification of innovation potential, consolidation of intellectual property rights, business case development.
Over a total of 50 applications submitted to the second FET-Innovation Launchpad, 19 succesfull projects have been selected and will be offered a grant.
This brings the number of ongoing Horizon 2020 FET-Innovation Launchpad projects to 35, funded with about EUR 3.5 million by the EU.
The EC expects to fund many more projects under the FET Innovation Launchpad from 2018 to 2020, with a budget of EUR 8.2 million.
The next cut-off for the submission of project proposals is 16 October 2018.
Some examples of the successful proposals are the testing of a drug that inhibits the metabolism of cell lines from several types of tumor, the commercialization of a new actuator for physical human-robot interaction, the exploitation of an innovative tool to convert inexpensive near-infrared (NIR) light into coherent UVA for industrial and biomedical use.
FET- Innovation Launchpad projects
- CellFreeImplant will work on future development of smart, cell-free Ti-based medical implants due to laser-induced microstructures addressing wide-spread patients' needs, for instance in the field of cardio-vascular diseases. Coordinator: Universitat Linz, Austria
- The DeLight ultra-high resolution laser printing technology will enable mass-customization of flat-optics, with a wide application field, such as opthalmic lenses, advanced optical filters and optical sensor technology for the Internet of Things (IoT). - E-SPECTR will develop a strategy to target a global market of sensor devices, with the Excitation Spectroscopy Sensor that was prototyped during the previous project implementation. Coordinator: Cybertronica Ug (Haftungsbeschrankt) Gmbh, Germany
- FUTURA2020 will test the previously developed robotic platform able to guarantee high robustness, adaptability and precision of therapy, as well as improving safety and acceptability of multifunctional robotic platforms in the surgical theatre. - GFAB will assess the feasibility of launching a new “Graphene Electronic Devices Fab” business that will offer Graphene Electronic Device fabrication to the industry and research centres. In particular, the project will focus on Graphene Field Effect Transistors, a special type of Graphene Electronic Device that offers higher performance for a wide range of applications. - Hermes SR will develop a commercialisation plan for a Super Resolution microscope that will allow to visualize in single cells, in parallel, DNA, mRNAs and proteins with nanoscale resolution. This microscope will have automated workflow and data acquisition, enabling collecting large datasets of consistent high quality with unprecedented spatio-temporal resolution. - LaBionicS aims at both commercializing and industrializing a surface laser processing approach for biomimetic surface texturing. Coordinator: Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas, Greece
- MagElastic will further advance towards the market magnetoelastic micromotors to manipulate fluids at microscopic scale, for commercialising a blood plasma separation component which will enable to produce a range of point-of-care devices for diagnosis of many known illnesses. - MEDISS will demonstrate the usefulness of the previously validated device for quantum applications for bio-medical applications by developing a dedicated prototype, representing an ideal solution for medical imaging. Coordinator: Single Quantum BV, The Netherlands
- NanoMAGIQ aims at providing the semiconductor industry with analytical tools for design testing and failure analysis, and to help researchers exploring new avenues in material and life sciences, by developing a robust and bio-compatible magnetic sensor with optical read-out, which combines nanometer resolution with a sensitivity to just a hundred atoms, limited by quantum noise. - NeuroMotive aims at offering a service in Traction Control for the automotive industry, based on the synthesis of sophisticated neural control laws. Coordinator: Technische Universitaet Muenchen, Germany
- OPTIMISM will enable the creation of compact narrow linewidth lasers in a variety wavelength ranges, through an optical microresonator that can act as a miniature compact optical reference system, enabling tighter frequency control in laser systems. - QPARK aims at up-scaling the current Smart Parking solution, enriching it with a new feature that enables the generation of reports via a thorough analysis of which areas of the city are more affected by certain events and how the sudden increase in people affects the city traffic and the parking occupancy. - QPlay’s vision is the production and launch of massively-collaborative online video games solving research tasks in quantum technologies by means of hybrid human-computer interaction, complemented with machine learning algorithms. Coordinator: Turun Yliopisto, Finland
- Quake will push towards the market Qbeast, a transversal tool enabling to achieve the concept of interactive supercomputing and in-situ techniques to break traditional workflows in HPC simulations that can be applied to many different domains. A total of 50 eligible proposals were submitted of which 19 proposals were invited to grant agreement preparation. This corresponds to a success rate of 38%.
