On Monday 26th February 2018, at the initiative of DG CONNECT, 21 experts from the energy and ICT sectors met in Brussels to discuss about "Digitising the energy value chain". The aim was to have an open cross-sector discussion, with a view to provide input in the context of the next Multiannual Financial Framework, in particular the next Connecting Europe Facility Programme.

Two main conclusions emerged from the workshop:

  • Digital e-platforms providing energy related information services would facilitate the development of the EU energy market, and more optimal use of renewable energy.
  • There is a need to deploy digital infrastructures to optimise the energy interconnections amongst Member States.

During the forthcoming weeks it is expected to develop these outcomes to increase market transparency, energy assets and renewable sources optimisation, for the benefit of EU citizens and the industries, by means of this "Digital energy-services e-platforms", as well as putting in place new "Digital infrastructures to optimise energy interconnections".
