The study analyses selected European regions where Digital Innovation Hubs are the policy outcome of a Smart Specialisation (S3) process or an active actor of them.
Conclusions confirm that DIHs can, while supporting the digitalisation of the local industry, also enhance the regional innovation ecosystem.
The report includes an analysis of different business models and funding mix of DIHs. It also highlights how DIHs can be instrumental in the success of Smart Specialisation strategies, by channeling support mechanisms at different levels, joining forces with regional development agencies or by being partners for the development and feedback of RIS3 processes.
Finally, the report outlines a series of recommendations for the long-term sustainability of the DIHs.
