This seminar, organised by the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) and the Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC) will bring together academic researchers, industry representatives and policymakers to discuss issues related to open access to data across different sectors.

The seminar follows the European Commission's  adoption in April 2018 of the data package, which includes a range of measures to contribute to making relevant data available, as a key step towards the creation of a common data space in the EU — a seamless digital area with the scale that will enable the development of new products and services based on data.

Furthermore, the General Data Protection Regulation will enter into force in May 2018, introducing a new right to data portability enabling individuals to transfer personal data among service providers. The September 2017 proposal for a Regulation on the free flow of non-personal data aims to facilitate the development of self-regulatory codes of conduct for cloud portability between businesses.
