The Commission updated the EU rules on spectrum use related to Ultra Wide Band products.

 The "Commission Implementing Decision 2014/702/EU amending Decision 2007/131/EC on allowing the use of the radio spectrum for equipment using ultra-wideband technology in a harmonised manner in the Community" was adopted on 7 October.

The new updated rules relate to Ultra Wide Band wireless systems used for location tracking of objects, persons, assets; onboard systems for automotive, rail and aircraft vehicles and devices for building material analysis and object detection, discrimination and characterisation.

The Commission has revised and updated the technical parameters for Ultra Wide Band technology to ensure consistency with the latest standards and studies.

The new rules will take effect from 1st February 2015.
