The Commission Implementing Decision on spectrum use by wireless audio PMSE (Programme Making and Special Events) harmonises a minimum amount of spectrum across Europe for wireless microphones used at sports events, in concerts or musical theatre productions.

On 1 September 2014 the European Commission adopted an Implementing Decision on harmonised technical conditions of spectrum use by programme making and special events (PMSE) equipment. The Implementing Decision, which is in response to the Radio Spectrum Policy Programme (Decision 243/2012/EU), only covers wireless audio applications, such as wireless microphones and in-ear monitors. These applications are essential for production of content and documentation of social events, news, creative industries, sports, educational or community events.

This Implementing Decision designates and makes available on a harmonised basis the frequency bands 823 to 832 MHz and 1785 to 1805 MHz for wireless audio PMSE use as well as an additional amount of at least 30 MHz on user demand, to be made available in spectrum ranges to be identified by the Member States. In order to improve coexistence between microphones and mobile networks Member States have an obligation to encourage interference mitigation techniques. This will help to improve the overall situation and to lower the probability of harmful interference.
