The European Commission and the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union welcome the political will expressed by all 27 Member States on the next generation cloud for Europe. This secure and competitive cloud offering is essential to provide the trustworthy data processing infrastructure and services that public administrations, businesses and citizens require in Europe.

The OCRE consortium of research and education networks from 48 countries are inviting interested bidders to submit offers for their IaaS+ (Infrastructure as a Service) procurement. This aims to deploy commercial cloud services to empower the research capabilities of the European research community. This OCRE procurement exploits the results of the past HNSciCloud (Helix Nebula Science Cloud) pre-commercial procurement in which such type of innovative cloud based solutions were developed and tested for the European Open Science Cloud. Deadline for submission of offers: 2 June 2020.

On 10 October 2017, during the European Week of Regions and Cities, the European Commission (DG GROW and DG REGIO) and the Committee of the Regions launched the Digital Cities Challenge. The Challenge invites cities in Europe to improve the life of their citizens through the development and implementation of digital policies.

All the European Union Member States and EFTA countries signed the 'eGovernement Declaration' in Tallin on 6 October 2017. The declaration was signed during the Ministerial Meeting which took place in the framework of the eGovernement Ministerial Conference. This was chaired by Minister Urve Palo, representing the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU and in the presence of Andrus Ansip, European Commission Vice-President for the Digital Single Market.

The eGovernment Action Plan 2016-2020 was published a year ago, on 19/04/2016, as part of a package of initiatives related to the realisation of the Digital Single Market (DSM). While the Commission is reviewing the progress made towards completing the Digital Single Market and will publish the DSM Midterm Review in May, we are now taking stock of the efforts made in accelerating the digital transformation of government. The 2017 edition of eGovernment factsheets has been published by the European Commission's National Interoperability Framework Observatory (NIFO) community. The factsheets summarise policies and activities related to the implementation and the delivery of digital public services in 34 countries (EU countries, FYROM, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey).
