The European Commission will be in the spotlight at the Mobile world Congress, the world’s largest gathering for the mobile industry, from 22nd to 25th February 2016 in Barcelona, Spain. The European Union Pavilion will host tech demos in 5G technology, artistic performances and special sessions on 5G, the Digital Single Market and Internet of Things.

Vice-President Ansip in charge of the Digital Single Market and Commissioner Günther Oettinger, in charge of the Digital Economy and Society will participate in high level discussions with industry on 5G and telecoms in this event.

The European Commission will focus on 5G, the mobile network of tomorrow, at Mobile World Congress this year. The EU is leading the race towards the "fifth generation" of telecommunication systems, as 5G can drive the transformation of EU into a digital society. It can enable progress and growth of many other sectors: automotive, energy, manufacturing, transport, healthcare, medicine, construction, IT and natural resource management.

EU Pavilion at Mobile World Congress

Six projects will present their apps, prototypes and entertainment services at the EU Pavilion mainly in the 5G domain. The projects will have links to and applicability in the area of Internet of Things, Robotics and Connected car.

The modern and inviting EU pavilion is located in Congress Square and is inspired by the Berlaymont building and EC logo. It is the main anchor of EC activities at the Mobile World Congress. The opening ceremony will take place on 22nd February at 9h30.

Keynotes and announcements on 5G, Internet of Things and Digitisation of Industry

Important keynotes/speeches and announcements on Digital Single Market and digitisation of industry, 5G and vertical industries impacted, Internet of Things and connected cars will take place on the EU stand apart from all the other demos and activities.
