The curriculum has been adopted since mid-2014 and continuously updated after every cycle of offerings to keep up with latest trends and practices in the digital businesses and cyber world.
The study offering provides comprehensive education and certification training to participant students from bachelor degree programmes. This education offering supports individual and group learning processes where individual student been trained with industrial certification curriculum along with fulfilling higher education requirements for European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
The different stakeholders been part of the digital skill programme. We have partnerships with industrial actors including Nokia, Nixu Corporation, Digia Oy, F-Secure and others for student participation on HackAthon, Work placements, Training and Mentoring.
Finland has implemented a national level cyber security competence development programme from schools to higher education under their nationwide Cyber Security Strategy Implementation Programme. The curriculum is targeting to meet the standards and learning outcomes of national and international certification programmes.
This digital skill development programme is not funded. However, it is directly under national higher education and ECTS framework. At present, the programme is running under digital and ICT education programme integrated with RDI (research, development and innovation) projects. We have trained more than 1000 students in last few years. They have increased the digital skills capacity in the fields of cybersecurity and mobile business.
The programme is directly relevant to capacity building in cyber security digital and mobile world. Following is direct measurable impact:
- Enrolled students: 1175 (Since Aug 2014 to 2018);
- Accepted students: 882 (75 % students make it);
- Passing success percentage: 82-95 (More);
- Successful students: 723;
- Many students been recruited in the ICT field and successfully contributing in their domains.
- Every academic year, the programme trains about 250 students in digital cyber security field.
- The students’ job and employment rates is very high more than 85% employed in the field after finishing BIT and SM programme.
Unique to this initiative: We have developed unique learning model where participant students can participate, working life and RDI (Research, Development and innovation) projects, practical hands-on training, Industry HackAthons and practical training with industrial partners.
Key sustainability factors: The programme is part of ECTS higher education (funding is not on-going worry), industrial partnership, H2020, FP-7 and other project integration in studies. The students’ employment and jobs chances increases significantly due to industry driven education and training offering.
