Since spring 2009 a group of experts develops the Cloud Computing vision for Europe and future research and policy directions.

The results were published in the report "The future of Cloud Computing" in January 2010. Since then, technology for supporting cloud computing has made considerable advances. As part of this development, also our understanding of the concept and hence expectations towards the cloud environments have changed accordingly.

In order to capture the changes and maintain a state-of-the-art view on cloud computing technologies, its position in and its relevance for Europe, the group of experts was re-convened in 2011. The aim was to address the technological progress made during the last few years in the domain of cloud computing, to ensure that the current state of the art is reflected accurately and to identify the major gaps and necessities for future research and development in cloud technologies. The outcome of the group's work was presented on 2nd May 2012 in their 2nd Report: "Advances in Clouds" and in December 2012 in their 3rd report: A roadmap for Advanced Cloud Technologies under H2020
