On 1 August 2016 Commissioner Oettinger launched the Innovation Radar prize 2016, a European Commission initiative to celebrate high potential innovators developing digital innovations in EU-funded research and innovation projects.
On the longlist for the prize were 40 of the best digital innovators – and their EU-funded innovation – competing in four categories. Coming from every corner of Europe, these SMEs, university teams, spinoffs and start-ups are delivering digital breakthroughs with potential to have an impact on everything from asthma patients to food safety analysis to urban planning to even management of bee populations.
The first stage of the competition took place throughout the month of August when the public could vote on the DSM website for the innovators and innovations on the longlist that impressed them the most.
The polls closed yesterday evening and over 28,000 votes were cast by the public. I am delighted to announce today the 16 innovators from the original 40 who secured the most votes in their category and who will now proceed to the Innovation Radar Prize final:
The Innovation Radar Prize final takes place at the ICT Proposers Day event in Bratislava at 13:00 on 26 September 2016. In Bratislava the 16 finalists will get to pitch their innovation and their plans to get it 'out of the lab and into the market' to a panel of investors and entrepreneurs.
The jury will decide on a winner in each of the 4 categories. One of these winners will also be awarded by the jury the overall 2016 Innovation Radar Prize. This overall winner will then be featured on a Euronews programme about their innovation and its market potential.
To help them prepare for the final all 16 of the finalists will be offered targeted coaching and pitching training from experts and professionals of the Invest Horizon initiative. Invest Horizon is an EU funded programme designed to increase investments made in Innovative European SMEs and spinoffs through Investment Readiness development and Investor sensitization.
Congratulations to all the innovators competing for this prize, and best of luck to all who have made it to the final!
