Domains of expertise
The European Commission strives to improve connectivity through better access and faster Internet. The reports and analysis of broadband markets provide information on the development of broadband infrastructure, its quality and prices. The analysis takes into consideration both the demand and the supply side of fixed and mobile broadband. The availability and take-up of basic and high-speed next-generation (NGA) fixed broadband, the availability of radio spectrum and the take-up of mobile broadband are some of the other factors that have been taken into account.
Digital skills are essential in participating in and taking advantage of the digital society. The reports and analysis on human capital examines skills ranging from basic digital literacy to advanced digital skills like programming. Furthermore both supply of and demand for ICT professionals, as well as number of science and technology graduates are being studied.

The reports and analysis on internet use and online activities of the EU citizens examine consumption of online content (videos, music, games, etc.), online communication activities, video on demand services, online shopping and banking among others.
Integration of Digital Technology
The reports and analysis on digitisation of businesses and on use of online sell channels monitors electronic information sharing, RFID, use of social media, eInvoices, and cloud solutions, as well as eCommerce turnover and online sell cross-border.
Digital Public Services
The reports and analysis on the digitisation of public services focusses on eGovernment. The reports analyse the number of internet users who sent completed forms online, reuse of data held by public administration, level of completeness of eGovernment services, and governments' commitment to open data publication.
Research and Development
The reports and analysis on Reseach and Development in ICT monitors public R&D expenditure, public R&D ICT spending, European Commission funding to Horizon 2020 ICT projects as well as on Horizon 2020 ICT projects.It also analyzes their co financing rate, number of participations and average EC funding per participation.
DG CONNECT applies transparency policy and promotes re-use of the relevant documents, reports and datasets (EC Decision 2011/833/EU).
