The Communication "Unleashing the Potential of Cloud Computing in Europe" states that the Commission will work with industry to agree on a code of conduct for cloud computing providers.

In order to implement this action of the Communication, the Subgroup on code of conduct within the Cloud Select Industry Group was established. The reports of the meetings of this Subgroup and the contact details can be found below. As a result, the Code of conduct on Data Protection for Cloud Service Providers was submitted to the Article 29 Data Protection Working Party (WP29) for their opinion on behalf of the C-SIG.

At the C-SIG plenary meeting on the 29 October 2015, members of the C-SIG agreed to rework the Code of Conduct in line with the comments of article 29 Data Protection Working Party's opinion.

The revamped drafting team of the Code of Conduct has been working on the Code since November 2015. The final draft of the Code of Conduct on Personal Data protection for Cloud Service Providers was discussed at the last C-SIG plenary meeting on 27 June 2016. The latest developments and progress of the draft Code of Conduct were presented to the C-SIG. The substance of the C-SIG Code was agreed, and it was concluded that final details of the governance structure would be completed, upon which the Code would be finalised and ready for implementation.
