The rules displayed below were developed under CEF and are not mandatory under DEP. They can serve as optional guidance for release management under DEP.

The aim of release management is to build, test and deliver capabilities in such a way that the delivered service meets the requirements demanded by the stakeholders. New releases may arise from a need to add, remove, update or fix a service component. The objective of release management is to minimize the frequency of changes and to provide stability of services for the users through careful planning and strategy, such as combining multiple changes into one release. By contrast to change management, which is geared towards controlling and monitoring changes, release management concentrates on their implementation.
