The dialogues for the 1st cohort took place from the end of 2023 until May 2024, and the lessons learned, best practices and recommendations identified during the dialogues, which are presented in Part B of the best practices report, are significant for the wider blockchain community.

Also announced during the public webinar was the Most Innovative Regulator Award that was awarded by a panel of independent academic experts from different European universities. While recognizing that the best practices report was the result of the contributions by each of the appr. 50 regulators/authorities that participated as first-movers in the 1st round of dialogues (link to website), the honour was awarded  to  jointly to BFDI (Der Bundesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit), Banco de España, CNMV (Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores), NKOM (Nasjonal kommunikasjonsmyndighet), and  Banca d'Italia  for their outstanding and innovative contributions during the 1st cohort of dialogues. Congratulations to  to the joint winners for this fantastic achievement.

The pan-European Blockchain Sandbox is set up and operated by a consortium of legal experts from the law firm Bird & Bird and its consulting arm OXYGY supported by blockchain experts of Warren Brandeis and by the web-designers of Spindox, which has been procured through an open call for tenders in 2022. The selection and the award process will be overseen by a panel of independent academics consisting of Professor Roman Beck (IT-University, Copenhagen), Professor Soulla Louca (University of Nicosia, Cyprus) and Professor Walter Blocher (Universities of Kassel and Vienna).
