<p>On 26 April 2024, the European Commission presented how the single digital gateway initiative, including the <a target="_blank" href="https://ec.europa.eu/once-only-hub">Once-Only Technical System</a>, helps businesses (and private citizens) do business in other EU countries at the Hannover Messe 2024.</p>
<p>The single digital gateway facilitates online access to information, administrative procedures, and assistance services that EU citizens and businesses may need in another EU country. Practically, users can access the Single Digital Gateway through its user-centric portal <a target="_blank" href="https://europa.eu/youreurope/index_en.htm">Your Europe</a> and the Once-Only Technical System.</p>
<p>European industry is key to Europe’s prosperity and global competitiveness. The Hannover Messe is a leading international trade fair organised for industry. Since 2021, the European Commission has participated in this forum by presenting EU policies and projects that help industry embrace both the green and digital transitions, create the right conditions to boost their competitiveness and resilience, and support them in becoming the global leaders of tomorrow.</p>

<p>Representatives from the European Commission’s Directorate-Generals GROW (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs) and DIGIT (Digital Services) explained how the single digital gateway and Once-Only Technical System will help EU businesses make the most of the Single Market by making cross-border administration easier. The Single Digital Gateway allows a business (or individual) to see how EU rules are applied in each EU country for cross-border users, how to access these pertinent administrative procedures online and find assistance services relating to these procedures.</p>

<p>In tandem, the Once-Only Technical System saves EU citizens and businesses time and money by allowing the automatic exchange of official documents and data (such as diplomas, certifications or permits) between the ‘competent authorities’ that issue this data and the public body requesting the data. This automatic data exchange puts users in charge of their data and reduces the costs involved when completing cross-border administration within the European Single Market.</p>
<p>Both the single digital gateway and Once-Only Technical System are mandated by Regulation <a target="_blank" href="https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32018R1724">(EU) 2018/1724</a> (The Single Digital Gateway Regulation).</p>
