European Blockchain Sandbox moves into the Selection Phase for the 2nd cohort.

We are pleased to announce the successful closure of the application phase for the second cohort of the European Blockchain Sandbox. As we move into the Selection Phase, the European Commission's regulatory sandbox will evaluate the submitted applications to determine the composition of the upcoming 20-use case cohort.

Since the project's inception in mid-February last year, our team has tirelessly worked across the European Economic Area, engaging with innovators, regulators, and public authorities to elevate awareness of this groundbreaking initiative.

Our extensive involvement in conferences and webinars has not only allowed us to gather invaluable feedback but has also solidified the project's role in fostering essential connections between regulators/authorities and use-case owners from a range of industry sectors across the EU/EEA. This effort is underpinned by the support of key blockchain stakeholders such as the International Association of Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA), the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP), and the EU Blockchain Observatory and Forum, enhancing our outreach and impact. A testament to this impact is the 2023 Best Practices Report (Part A), published in collaboration with the European Commission, which encapsulates the experiences and lessons learned during the sandbox's inaugural year, reinforcing our project's significant contribution to shaping the EU blockchain landscape. The report is accessible here: https://rb.gy/ml9394.

Our team has also compiled a comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions library to transparently address queries from the public. We encourage you to explore these resources here (FAQs).

Selection Process

The application window for the second cohort closed on 25th March 2024, at 00:00 CET. Our dedicated Selection Team is now meticulously reviewing all submissions received by the deadline, based on publicly disclosed Selection Criteria available on our website (Selection Criteria). A use case from the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure, endorsed by the EBP, will also be included for public entities.

The Selection Team, composed of esteemed blockchain specialists from Warren Brandeis and supervised by an independent academic panel including Professor Roman Beck (IT-University, Copenhagen), Professor Soulla Louca (University of Nicosia, Cyprus), and Professor Walter Blocher (Universities of Kassel and Vienna), will lead this crucial phase.

Applicants will receive a notification by email around the end of May, detailing the decision. Selected participants will also be informed about the project onboarding stage.(News item to be included here)
