Support of (very) large files in eDelivery

The current practical limitation of sending large files via AS4 is +- 2GB (theoretically there is no limitation, but the current technological components that solutions are built on, typically support +- 2GB).
A public consultation has been launched to update the eDelivery AS4 profile to optionally support very large files (over 2 GB) via the split and join feature of ebMS 3.

SF questioned the existence of business case that requested the support of such feature. MD replied that we have been receiving several requests for such. SF emphasised that in this manner eDelivery would be stepping out of the OASIS AS4 profile as this solution is not defined in AS4, but in the EBMS3 speification. MD confirmed that this is the case, but that it will be an optional module that implementation can choose to support only if they want or need.

SF stated that this would be a very complex implementation. He suggested that alternative solutions could be explored.

PH questioned if other protocols could not be used in this context, namely sFTP, that are more optimized for this type of functionality. MD replied that indeed eDelivery looked into other solutions and opted for Split & Joint. SF suggested looking into the external payload option (which EBMS). MD suggested SF and PH to formalize these comments in the public consultation on the eDelivery AS4 1.15 specifications so they are properly fed into the public consultation process and can be handled by the team.

Another proposed change for the next version of the eDelivery AS4 profile is a recommendation to use #X509PKIPathv1 tokens in the Dynamic Receiver Profile Enhancement. In the case there would be a solution that does not support sending the full certificate chain instead of only a leaf certificate, we would be interested to hear about this.

SF and PH stated that their solution supports this feature, already.

DH stated that IBM only supports the leaf certificate, IBM will look into taking steps in order to support the full certificate chain. MD reiterated that this feature should be supported in order to fully comply with the specs and provided an overview on the full certificate chain validation and what it implies.

Directory services

We are getting several queries about the use of directory services for discovery of participants and the capabilities. As a results we are contacting several stakeholder to gather their requirements for directory services.

In case you have requirements and would like to be interviewed or in case you know a potential solution we should analyse, please let us know.
