Informatics should be part of education for all European citizens since it is an essential element of knowledge to understand modern society and a major enabler of technology innovation, the principal resource for Europe’s drive to become an information society, and the key to the future of Europe’s economy. However, informatics education is sorely lacking in most European countries.

Hence, Informatics Europe pledges to promote informatics education in schools in Europe (K-12) according to the Joint Informatics Europe - ACM Europe Report on Informatics Education in Schools. In addition it will provide a platform to share educational knowledge and best practices across different countries and coordinate national initiatives to finally establish informatics as a compulsory subject in schools.
