Professor Ray O’Neill is Vice President for Innovation at National University of Ireland, Maynooth. A physicist, he completed a BSc in Physics and a PhD in atomic and molecular physics at Queen’s University, Belfast before joining the Department of Experimental Physics at Maynooth in 1993. Since 2004 he has held various senior positions at Maynooth including Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dean of Graduate Studies, and was Vice President for Research from 2008-13.
He has served as a board member of the Science Foundation Ireland Centre for Telecommunications Research, a member of the European Universities Association Research Policy Group, and is director of a number of Maynooth spin-out companies. He is a strong believer in the benefits and power of open innovation and has been closely involved with the development of the Innovation Value Institute Consortium and Research Institute since its inception at Maynooth in 2006.
