Safer Internet Day (SID)

SID is an international event taking place each February, which promotes a safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones by children and young people across the world.

SID is organized by INSAFE, under the patronage of Vice-President Neelie Kroes, and supported through the Safer Internet Programme

Over the years, Safer Internet Day (SID) has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network , Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in more than 90 countries worldwide, and across six of the world’s seven continents.

The 2013 edition of Safer Internet Day took place on 5 February 2013 with a focus on "Online Rights and Responsibilities".
