Get Online Week 2013 is a pan-European awareness campaign engaging and empowering people to use technology and the internet.
This year's Get Online Week also ties in with the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs which was officially launched in early March 2013 at a conference in Brussels. On this occasion, Telecentre Europe presented its plans for GOW 2013 and a pledge to lead and facilitate Local Coalitions for Digital Jobs in support of the Grand Coalition.
Over 20% Europeans are young, unemployed, and mostly unaware that by 2015, up to 900.000 vacancies for ICT-related jobs may remain open if jobseekers do not acquire the right digital skills. The GOW2013 aims at directing more young people into computing degrees, by reaching out to 10.000 European ICT learning centres (also known as telecentres) at public libraries, NGOs, schools & municipal organisations, located in both urban and rural areas. National campaign partners from almost 30 countries have joined efforts and will make use of innovative employability tools to direct more young people into computing qualifications.
