Markku Markkula is the President of the European Committee of Regions (CoR) and Vice-Chairman of the Open Innovation Strategy and Policy Group (OISPG). He is also member of Espoo City Council in Finland.
Markkula is a former member of the Finnish Parliament (1995-2003) and currently a Member of the Board of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council and Chairman of the Espoo City Planning Board. He works as an Advisor at Aalto University in Finland with a focus and expertise on European Union research, innovation and education policy affairs.
During his mandate as a President of the CoR Markkula's main priorities witll be smart growth, sustainable jobs and security. Given his professional trajectory in a number of innovative bodies, it is expected that he will make innovation one of CoR's new priorities.
