Commodore Mark Mellett commands the Irish Naval Service which defends, protects and furthers Ireland's 'National Interests' at and from the sea. He has an interest in Military and Public Service Transformation and contributes regularly to collaborative events aimed at enhancing defence service delivery while stimulating enterprise and job creation with a direct or indirect link to Defence Forces capability development. He is a founding champion and Governing Authority member of the Irish Maritime and Energy Resource Cluster (IMERC). He is a visiting Professor at Liverpool Hope University where his current research focuses on the uses of innovation for security to underpin cost-effective military, maritime and public service delivery. He holds a PhD in Oceans Governance from the National University of Ireland Galway and a Masters in Government and Public Policy from University College Cork (UCC).
