In order to unleash the potential of cloud computing, the European Commission Communication on Cloud Computing released on September 27, 2012 identifies cutting through the jungle of standards as a one of the key actions to foster mass adoption of cloud computing.
The Communication "Unleashing the Potential of Cloud Computing in Europe" states that the Commission will develop with stakeholders model terms for cloud computing service level agreements for contracts between cloud providers and professional cloud users, taking into account the developing EU acquis in this field.
In the European Cloud Computing Strategy 'Unleashing the potential of Cloud Computing in Europe', the European Commission undertook to work with the support of ENISA and other relevant bodies to assist the development of EU-wide voluntary certification schemes in the area of cloud computing.
The Communication "Unleashing the Potential of Cloud Computing in Europe" states that the Commission, under Key Action 2 (Safe and Fair Contract Terms and Conditions), will work with industry to agree on a code of conduct for cloud computing providers. The code of conducts will support a uniform application of data protection rules and may be submitted to the Article 29 Working Party.
The European Cloud Partnership (ECP) brings together industry and the public sector to establish a Digital Single Market for cloud computing in Europe.
