112 in Cyprus

The European emergency number 112 is not the only emergency number in Cyprus.

199 works alongside 112.

For disabled people, there is specific help:

  • Special equipment is provided to blind people.
  • Deaf people can communicate with other telephone customers using a Telefax machine or the SMS. The customer sends his/her message by Telefax (4 digits number) or by SMS  to the dedicated number for deaf people, the operator responsible for the above service receives the message, calls the person to whom the message is addressed and reads it out to them.

It is possible to call 112 from a mobile phone even without a SIM card.

112 calls are answered on average within 16 seconds.

The calls are answered not only in Greek, but also in English, Arabic and Russian.

According to the latest  E-communications household and telecom single market survey, 37% of Cypriots know they can use 112 everywhere in the EU.
