Conference “Diversity and competitiveness of the European music sector” – Report published

The European Commission organised an event to assess the state of the music ecosystem in the context of Covid-19 and the sector’s recovery path.

Music Moves Europe

On 4-5 March, the European Commission organised an online conference on the diversity and competitiveness of the European music sector. The event brought together Member States’ experts and a range of external speakers from the music sector and beyond.

The music ecosystem and its recovery after Covid-19

The attendees discussed the state of the music ecosystem in the context of the Covid-19 crisis and its recovery path.

Other themes were

The main objectives of the event were to

  • inform Member States’ experts on the EU level works on music
  • present and identify best practices on targeted support for music from the Member States
  • explore together with Member States’ experts possible areas for future European cooperation
  • discuss solutions towards recovery and investigate sustainable approaches for this sector

The outcomes of this conference will further inform the EU level discussions on music, especially in the context of Music Moves Europe and regarding future targeted funding for music under the Creative Europe programme 2021-2027.

Background

The event was part of the Council Work Plan for Culture. The Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture organised the conference with the support of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU.
