On the 9 April, the 5th cultural cooperation committee meeting took place in Brussels. The meeting occurred in the framework of cultural relations proposed by the DG Education and Culture and the European External Action Service in June 2016 and endorsed by the Council and the European Parliament the following year.
Representatives of the EU, the Member States and the 10-member delegation of the Republic of Korea discussed possibilities of cooperation in performing arts, European Capitals of Culture, the European Year of Cultural Heritage and various initiatives in cultural and creative sectors on both sides.
The Korean delegation was invited for a study visit during the following two days, to get a taste of the vibrant cultural ecosystem in Belgium and in Europe. The intense programme in Leuven and in Brussels included visits and presentations of creative hubs in a historical environment: OPEK, De Hoorn, ING Art Center and Créatis; of cultural institutions: Museum M and BOZAR; of cultural projects: P.A.R.T.S. dance school, Creative Tracks and b.creative; as well as cultural policies at the regional and local level: the Flemish Ministry for Culture, Media and Youth, Leuven Mindgate, Vaartopia, and Leuven 2030.
The importance of EU-Korea cultural relations is expected to grow and deepen in the near future.
