In a Communication adopted on 22 July the Commission invites Member States and stakeholders to work together to maximise the intrinsic and societal value of cultural heritage, and its contribution to EU jobs and growth.

The Communication "Towards an integrated approach to cultural heritage for Europe", describes the challenges facing the heritage sector, and highlights the opportunities for Member States and stakeholders to work more closely across borders, making the most of EU policies and programmes.

It also calls for stronger cooperation at EU level to share ideas and best practice, which can feed into national heritage policies and governance.
