EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards: Kempens Landschap honoured
An award ceremony will take place at the Kempens Landscape Association (Kempens Landschap) in Wuustwezel, Belgium, on 19 September to celebrate its success in the 2014 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards.
The association received a Grand Prix for dedicated service to heritage. Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, together with high-level representatives from Europa Nostra and the Flemish Community of Belgium, will attend the ceremony at the Chapel of the former Convent of the Franciscan Order. They will be welcomed by Peter Bellens and Inga Verhaert, the chairmen of Kempens Landschap, together with Ludo Helsen and Jos Geuens, he founders and honorary chairmen, Philippe De Backer, general manager, Piet Jaspaert, board member of Europa Nostra and Jozef Van Waeyenberge, president of Europa Nostra Belgium.
Kempens Landschap is a joint initiative of the Province of Antwerp and 65 municipalities. Marc Andries, head of cabinet for Minister-President of the Flemish government, Geert Bourgeois, will address the event, which will also be attended by mayors and aldermen from the partner municipalities. Established in 1997, the Kempens Landschap manages 850 hectares of land, encourages public access and makes its expertise available to its partners. The association has received European Union funding from schemes such as Life+, Leader and Interreg.
The 2015 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards is open for applications until 15 October.
