Commissioner Vassiliou congratulates Sebastian Vettel on Formula One championship victory
Ms. Vassiliou congratulated Germany's Sebastian Vettel on becoming the new Formula One world champion, after his dramatic victory in the final race of the season in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
"I'm delighted that, once again, a European driver has finished the season in pole position in the drivers' rankings. At 23 and the youngest winner of the title, Sebastian has proved that determination pays off, no matter how old you are."
Vettel (RBR-Renault) edged out Spain's Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) to seal the title in a dramatic finale to the season.
