The Commission’s White paper of 1 March 2017 sets out possible paths for the future of Europe. We face many challenges, from globalisation, to the impact of new technologies on society and jobs, to security concerns and the rise of populism.
The White paper offers five scenarios for how the Union could evolve, depending on the choices we make. The White paper marks the start of the debate. Work continues in earnest on a clear path forward, ahead of the European Parliament elections in May 2019.
