Nous sommes tous sous le choc des dégâts provoqués par l'ouragan Irma aux Antilles, et de tout cœur aux côtés des habitants de Saint-Martin et Saint-Barthélemy, et nous les aiderons.

How much is your Europe worth?

Today, my colleague Commissioner Gunther Oettinger and I present the Commission's "reflection paper on the future of EU finances". What sort of budget will we need in future? In what should it invest? How should it work?

Focus on jobs, migration, economic growth... Europe in Greece

This week I did what one would call a "Greek marathon": I spent four days in Greece, visited several islands, participated in two events, and visited three ERDF co-funded projects.

Molenbeek: EU-funded projects in the heart of Brussels. For a caring Europe

I don't always have to travel hundreds of kilometers to witness the impressive results of Cohesion Policy. They are all around us; we just have to look closer. Yesterday for instance I visited the commune of Molenbeek in Brussels, an inner-city area that has been on the front pages of newspapers across Europe for all the wrong reasons. What I saw yesterday however was different from what you read in the media.

European Youth Week 2017: Europe invests in its future!

The 2017 European Youth Week is underway as at EU level the youth unemployment rate (21.1%) is more than twice as high as the overall unemployment rate (9.8%). And I cannot help remembering Diogenes' famous quote that "the foundation of every state is its youth", even though I would be tempted to replace the word "state" by "society".

Zagreb 26-27 April 2017: Implementing EU funds and debating with Croat citizens

I was in Croatia this week, 26-27 April 2017, visiting Zagreb, a city where the continental spirit blends with the Mediterranean one. Cohesion Policy has such an ardent supporter in Croatia, a country that only joined the European family four years ago.

GAC Council: discussing the future of cohesion policy with Member States

Luxembourg was focussing on Cohesion Policy this 25 April as the "General Affairs Council" (GAC) met. Such informal meetings with representatives of Europe's Member States are invaluable as we can exchange, confront ideas, and thus progress towards future agreements.

Back on the trail again: Debating Europe with Greek people, discussing EU funds with institutions and visiting EU-funded projects

I was in Greece between 5 and 7 April, my fifth visit to it in my mandate. Once again, I stated my personal commitment to support a Greek-led growth strategy as well as the development of every Greek region. This was the objective of President Juncker's 2015 plan called "A New Start for jobs and growth in Greece" as it sought to help Greece maximise its use of EU funds.

Charleroi: Where cohesion policy made (and keeps making) a difference!

On 24 March, I went to Charleroi in Wallonia. I wanted to see with my own eyes the achievements of Cohesion Policy in that area that is facing unemployment problems and to reaffirm the support of the European Commission in the process of economic reconversion of the region, especially in the wake of the Caterpillar crisis.

International Women's Day: A joint declaration, a joint editorial and a moment with women colleagues

8th of March, the International Women's Day is a very special day for me, both as a woman and as an EU Commissioner. As a woman first, as this is an issue that is very close to my heart, and that will always be. And as an EU Commissioner because I cannot tell you how much I am convinced that we will only achieve true gender equality in Europe by working together: towns, regions and EU institutions.

From Pompeii to Norcia: where the EU stars bring a brighter future

I travel a lot across Europe. That is part of my job: to go and see by myself the state of play of EU funded projects, to encourage local, regional and national authorities to make the most of available EU funds, to use them in the best possible way. And I suppose my recent (8-10 February) trip to Naples, Pompeii, Norcia and Cascia was no exception. In a way.
