MY THOUGHTS FROM YESTERDAY - WALLS AND BRIDGES

MY MESSAGE FOR WORLD HEART DAY 2016: "HEALTHY CHOICES, HEALTHY HEART"

What causes heart disease? A simple question I have heard many times. My answer: while some some risk factors are difficult to influence – age, sex or family history - making healthy lifestyle choices, whether it is stopping smoking, switching to Mediterranean diet, exercising or reducing stress can prevent heart disease. Thoughts from #WeAreSeat123

Yesterday, with my fellow EU Commissioners, I attended the extraordinary session in the European Parliament. Some photos – particularly that of my right hand - and videos have spread on social media. You will have seen me grimacing and trying to hide my despair while Nigel Farage spoke.

World Blood Donor Day 2016: Blood connects us all

The motto of this year's World Blood Donor Day is "blood connects us all". I could not agree more. Whatever our gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion or political views, each one of us has one of four blood types running through our veins: A, B, AB or O, and with a simple matching procedure, we can share our blood with each other.

My message for ‘Movember’: Men, take care of your prostate!

I have recently heard about ‘Movember’ which is rapidly gaining in popularity as a way of celebrating men’s health (and facial hair) during the month of November. The idea behind it is simple – men grow their moustaches and beards during the month of November to raise awareness of various cancers.
