Clean development and climate change are part of the joint action plan covering areas of key areas of interest for India and the EU.
The Joint Action Plan endorsed in 2005 and revised in 2008 is helping to realise the full potential of the strategic partnership between India and the EU. This includes the implementation of the joint work programme on climate change adopted at the EU-India Summit in 2008.
Areas of cooperation
The EU-India initiative on clean development and climate change focuses on:
- cooperation on clean technology
- the Clean Development Mechanism
- adapting to climate change and integrating adaptation into sustainable development strategies.
Climate issues are also part of the EU's research cooperation with India.
Examples of joint projects
Examples of EU-financed projects:
- FOWIND (facilitating off-shore wind development in India)
- SCOPE BIG (scalable CSP optimised power plant engineered with biomass integrated gasification)
- CECI (clean energy cooperation with India)
- CDSC (clean development and sustainable cities) to integrate low-carbon strategies into urban development.
In 2014, the European Investment Bank and the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency signed a EUR 200 million loan agreement for renewable energy and energy efficiency in India.
