EU invests €240 million for nature, environment and climate action 13/11/2019

This autumn more than 120 new projects will be funded under the LIFE programme for the Environment and Climate Action, helping Europe shift to a more sustainable and low-carbon future. Approximately €240 million will go to projects in the fields of nature and biodiversity, environment and resource efficiency, and climate action, mobilising additional investments in these areas.

The Commission has reached an important milestone in the preparation for phase 4 of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), starting in 2021 with the adoption of the Regulation setting out the rules on how the free allocation of emission allowances will reflect the changes in the activity of the installations.

EU greenhouse gas emissions down 23% since 1990, still implementation will have to be further accelerated to reach current 2030 targets 31/10/2019

EU greenhouse gas emissions declined by 2% in 2018 and reached their lowest level since 1990. In 2018, emissions were 23% below the 1990 level, while the GDP had increased by 61%. Implementation will have to be accelerated significantly, the annual EU Climate Action Progress Report adopted today concludes, to reach 2030 targets and for the EU to become climate-neutral by 2050.

The European Union, Iceland and Norway agree to deepen their cooperation in climate action 25/10/2019

The European Union, Iceland and Norway today agreed to extend their cooperation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.

EU and Africa to step up cooperation on climate change adaptation 24/09/2019
