"Slovenian beekeeping excels in good practice and high standards of honey making. Slovenia has three quality schemes protected at the EU level: Slovenian honey with protected geographical indication - Koevje forest honey with protected designation of origin and Karst honey with protected designation of origin.
Consumers who look for quality and value, more than the price, will recognise these EU schemes and demand them. All the goals are established to achieve the main goal of the Union measures, which is to increase competitiveness. By highlighting the key messages of the EU quality schemes, we will achieve an increase in consumer awareness, as well as in beekeepers’ awareness of the schemes. This will lead to an increase in the number of products included in schemes and, as a result, a larger market income.
The programme anticipates the preparation of a communication strategy that will clearly define event promotion, information provided at points of sale, production of materials and media appearances in terms of content, time and finances. This is of key importance for the achievement of the goal of increasing awareness of the general public, regarding all three EU quality schemes. With the diversity of adds, the unified action of participating beekeepers, the presentation of quality schemes at fairs and other events organised for the general public and with qualified beekeepers, we will surely reach our set goals (i.e. increasing awareness of the general public and beekeepers’ awareness of the importance and the benefits of the EU quality schemes, increasing the number of beekeepers participating in quality schemes and increasing the market value of honey).
Our key market is particularly oriented towards Slovenia, which is also well-known for offering beekeeping tourist attractions. For the implementation of the programme, a total of €390,729 of EU resources is necessary."
