eArchiving Services

eArchiving Sample Software Portfolio

All software components described below can also be found at https://github.com/E-ARK-Software

    eArchiving ToolBox (eATB)

The archiving tool box is a suite of tools for the creation of information packages for archival purposes. The archival information package must follow the structure defined by the E-ARK specification for information packages (CSIP available at https://earkcsip.dilcis.eu).

The purpose of this library is to broaden the scope of use of the software by providing a generic python library with E-ARK specific functions that support E-ARK standards for E-ARK package creation and the generation of basic structural and preservation metadata. The library can also be used as a standalone component to generate E-ARK packages from the command line and can therefore be employed as an independent test case generator for the validation component.

    ESSArch

ESSArch - an open source digital preservation platform covering the whole e-archiving process and workflow:

    • prepare any content information to be packaged, validated and submitted to a digital repository
    • receive and validate packages and prepare for further transfer into a digital repository
    • receive (ingest), store (storage) and provide/reuse (access)
    • preservation planning/actions, policy/profile management, archival descriptions (data management)

    RODA-in

RODA-in is a tool specially designed for producers and archivists to create Submission Information Packages (SIP) ready to be submitted to an Open Archival Information System (OAIS). The tool creates SIPs from files and folders available on the local file system.

    RODA

RODA is a digital repository solution that delivers functionality for all the main units of the OAIS reference model. RODA is capable of ingesting, managing and providing access to the various types of digital objects produced by large corporations or public bodies.

RODA is based on open-source technologies and is supported by existing standards such as the Open Archival Information System (OAIS), Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS), Encoded Archival Description (EAD), Dublin Core (DC) and PREMIS (Preservation Metadata).

    Database Preservation Toolkit (DBPTK)

Set of tools to store and access relational databases in a standardised archival format (SIARD).

    Python E-ARK Information Package Validator

Validation for E-ARK information packages (SIP, DIP, etc.) provided as a REST web service, command line application and software library (Python API). The validation process checks:

    • Well Formedness: the structure of the information package conforms with the appropriate specification
    • Validity: the information package metadata is syntactically correct
    • Integrity: that the package contents are consistent with those declared in the package's manifest metadata, e.g. file names, sizes, checksums, etc.
