Bins were often overflowing, and security guards or metal collectors would frequently burn rubbish at the old tip near the village of Bogdan. Today, with its new EU-funded landfill site, Dobrich is an example to other cities of how to achieve efficient integrated waste management. The Stozher landfill site opened in March 2015 It will serve the needs of 190,000 people from nine municipalities of the provinces of Dobrich and Shumen for 30 years Of 40 people employed at the site, half are from Stozher The facility is part of a project entitled “Creation of a regional waste management system in Dobrich” The total budget for this project is nearly €20 million, of which about €16 million was provided by the EU
